Mounting a CB and HAM radio in the XJ using a custom mounting plate

First things first in a new wheelin' rig. GET YOUR COMMUNICATIONS GOING!!
I cannot stress that enough, especially if you get out on your own a lot.

In the XJ we had keyless entry receiver. Using a Phillips screwdriver you can simply remove two screws and pop it out.
What you have underneath is some mounting holes (probably for the bigger OH console) and the wire connector.
Due to my XJ having this Console I had a big hole to cover.
I had to change my design a bit but credit still goes out to "Bubba" over at NSW Forum. Ok, off to the workbench...

I have been using these aluminum craft plates for years for communications mounting. It is 1/16" thick>
Plenty for these projects. You can pick these up at any ACE Hardware stores for under $3.00

I measured the distances for the holes and as it turns out the plate covers the console hole just perfect.

I HAVE A DREMEL AND I AM NOT AFRAID TO USE IT!!
Center the hole marks and I decided to cut the excess off the plate and give it a nice round edges for looks.
Once that was done I flipped it over and took some 400grit paper to it and gave it a brushed look.

Along with the CB I also have a Amateur radio license (HAM) and this means I also have another Radio to mount.
now this specific radio has a detachable remote face. I found I had extra room between the top of the CB and the ceiling.

  I took another plate
and cut the appropriate size of aluminum and bent it to the right angle. I took two self tapping screws and mated them together.

I used the two existing screw points that held the original console assembly in plus the single centered hole toward the back.

  The end result

The cables are ran up and under the ceiling header and along underneath the trim

If you don't have this type of OH console piece then you can still use these
aluminum craft sheets from ACE Hardware to go across the visor holders like Bubbas.
