How to vent unwanted Engine heat from the Engine compartment

Let me first say that credit goes to the original writer of this tek
over at

myxj.net

I followed his write-up to the letter. I found all hardware over at ACE hardware.
I used the grade 8.8 M8x40MM standard 1.00 pitch bolts and 3/4" square tubing.
The only difference I did was I added washer to to the bolts.

NOTE 1:
For some reason he measured the holes in metric but I found out you need to drill 5/16" holes 2" on center

NOTE 2:
If you have shims in between the hood and hinges, leave them there.
Even with the spacers they keep things level and square

Here are some pics to show my spacers.

I went over to Wal-Mart and got a dual temp sensor with remote wire to check compartment temps.
One thing I did not realize was that this temp gauge only goes to 160F. after that it just lines out.
I drove around with the gauge installed before I did the mod. and it never went below 160F.

With the mod its been running around 150F +/- 5 degrees when the outside temp is 110F
I will post a pic of the new readings once I remember to take the camera with and the weather is around 110F again.

Either way I bet the temp dropped 20 degrees if not more. Some other guys have reported 60F degree drops.
Without the gauge telling my anything above 160F I can only guess,

I can say that before the mod with A/C on and in midday traffic (at the time in Tempe) the temp gauge
would get me worried as it climbed but now in the exact same scenario it only climbs up to 210 and stays there.

End result is you want to evacuate the heat from the engine compartment. This does exactly that. You can feel the heat pouring out of the crack.
